The strategic vision for this department is to achieve a safe and healthy working, recreational and residential environment for all in uThukela District.
 

 

MISSION

To empower individuals, families and communities with appropriate knowledge and skills that will enable them to take informed decisions about preventing ill health, environmental pollution and promoting sustainable environmental development and wellness for themselves.
 

MAIN SERVICES PROVIDED BY THIS DEPARTMENT

The department is divided into two (2) sections namely; Municipal Health Services and Environmental Management Services.
 

ACTIVITIES OF MUNICIPAL HEALTH SERVICES

• Food Safety Control
• Surveillance and control of communicable diseases
• Health surveillance of premises
• Vector control
• Control of storage of disposal of the dead (corpses)
• Ensuring chemical safety
• Health education (awareness)
• Organizing health promotion events e.g. World Aids Day
   

ACTIVITIES OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Water Quality Monitoring (potable and wastewater analysis by laboratory services).

Environmental Pollution Control.

Waste Management.

Water services authority function relating to planning (WSDP), regulating (bylaws) and ensuring access to water and sanitation services by all consumers and potential consumers in the district

Environmental Management Education (awareness).

Organizing Environmental Management Promotion Events e.g. Arbour day.
